From The Anvil Ironmongery Finishes – Maintenance Guide

How to maintain and care for your From the Anvil Ironmongery Products

As with most door and window ironmongery, there are specific maintenance procedures that are required in order to keep your From the Anvil products looking their best. However, the procedures vary from finish-to-finish so it is important to know which methods are suitable for your specific product.

In this post we will be going over the key Anvil product finishes that we stock, including their features and maintenance procedures.

From the Anvil Range

Maintenance of Blacksmiths Finishes

Beeswax_finish_internal

Beeswax Finish – (Internal Use Only)

The beeswax finish is the most authentic finish for steel and to preserve the colours and the texture from the forge, hammer and anvil, Anvil recommend applying their maintenance wax. This gives a subtle, matt richness to the metal and offers excellent protection when products are fitted internally and properly maintained.

traditional_finish_external_beeswax

External Beeswax Finish – (External Use Only)

The external beeswax finish is unique to From The Anvil and is manufactured from a anti-corrosive beeswax. It has a matt richness and also ranges from blue to strong red ochre. To preserve these colours Anvil recommend periodically maintaining products with this finish using their beeswax maintenance wax.

traditional_finish_black

Black Finish (Internal and External Use)

Anvil’s black finish is baked in a high-temperature oven giving it a durable corrosion resistant finish. It is moisture resistant and can be used in damp conditions (e.g bathrooms). The finish is salt tested to 480 hours,  meeting grade 5 British Standard. Wiping with a lightly oiled cloth from time to time will remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

black_antique_finish

Antique Black Finish (Internal and External Use)

Anvil’s antique black finish is more textured than their standard ‘black finish’ due to the cast manufacturing methods used during production. It does however, have the same properties as the original black with salt testing and high corrosion resistance. Again, wiping with a lightly oiled cloth from time to time will remove any harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

traditional_finish_pewter

Pewter Patina Finish – (Internal and External Use)

Anvil’s pewter finish beautifully highlights the texture of the steel. The unique and complex process runs deep into the metal resulting in an unmatched contrast of texture and colour. The finish is salt tested for 480 hours, again meeting grade 5 British Standard. It has excellent anti-corrosive properties but it is still recommend that the finish is wiped with a lightly oiled cloth from time to time to any remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

wenlock_finish_natural_smooth

Natural Smooth Finish – (Internal and External Use)

A natural cast iron, finished with a clear matt lacquer which is only intended for internal use. This also produces a beautifully smooth look and feel with subtle highlights from the base metal. Wiping with a lightly oiled cloth from time to time will remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

Maintenance of Polished Finishes

wenlock_finish_polished

Polished Brass Finish (Internal and External Use)

Anvil’s polished brass products are made from solid unlacquered brass. Regular polishing with a good quality metal polish is recommended to maintain the original highly polished finish. However, if the intention is to allow the surface to age through oxidisation, no attention needs to be given. Over time the brass will acquire a darker and more aged patina.

polished_bronze_finish

Polished Bronze Finish – (Internal and External Use)

This finish is manufactured from solid unlacquered bronze containing a minimum of 85% copper. The finish undergoes an accelerated ageing process and is then re-polished, leaving any decorative details dark and larger surface areas more polished. If the intention is to allow the surface to age, no attention needs to be given. However, polishing with brasso will give the product a natural sheen where required. Over time the bronze will acquire a darker and more aged patina.

wenlock_finish_chrome

Polished Chrome Finish – (Internal and External Use)

A base metal of solid brass or steel with quality chrome plating applied to it’s surface. Anvil recommend that this finish is wiped with a lightly oiled cloth occasionally to remove harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

wenlock_finish_nickel

Polished Nickel Finish (External and Internal Use)

A highly polished finish with a nickel plating applied to solid brass. Anvil’s polished nickel is unlacquered and is similar to a polished chrome finish but with much warmer tones. Again, occasionally wiping with a lightly oiled cloth will remove any harmful deposits and maintain its original condition.

Zeta P2 is the profile biscuit jointer for the Lamello P-System anchorage used to connect wood materials.  It can be used with any of the P-System fasteners as well as standard wooden biscuits.

The integrated vertical mechanical drive on the cutting spindle of the Zeta P2 is the centre-piece of this profile biscuit joiner. During the cutting process, the vertical mechanical drive automatically performs a vertical movement to create the profile groove. All P-System fittings are then manually inserted into this groove, ensuring a fast form-locking anchorage.

The Zeta P2 can cut P-System grooves for connecting fittings with varying installation depths simply by turning the P-System depth adjuster, thus removing the need to change cutters.

The vertical movement for the profile groove is triggered automatically when the maximum cutting depth is reached and requires just a fraction of a second. The vertical mechanical drive combines process security and reliability with a low-wear, fully mechanical construction.

Maintenance

The Rutland Collection levers are designed to withstand external usage, but even with this tough finish, maintenance is still necessary.  We recommend regular cleaning with a soft cloth, if necessary moistened with water to remove any deposits.  Under no circumstances should you use hard tools, chemical, acidic or abrasive substances to clean the levers.  Please also be aware that the chemicals in wet plaster and wet paint will rust our products. Only fit your new ironmongery when you have made sure that all new plaster is fully cured and paint has dried.

Xylo L1 – High Performance Machine Bed Lubricant

Xylo L1 – High Performance Machine Bed Lubricant

Introducing The New L1 Machine Bed Lubricant From Xylo

One of the key quality indicators of any woodworking product is the consistency of the finish across the entire product.

The key to consistently producing  high quality finished products is to ensure the maintenance of the tools and machinery used during the manufacturing process.  Imperfections in machined timber are costly, but can be prevented with a little care.

This is where Xylo L1 Machine Bed Lubricant comes into play.

What is it?

Xylo L1 Machine Bed Lubricant is a high performance lubricant for use in woodworking environments providing performance, cleanliness and efficiency whilst inhibiting the build-up of wood resin on work surfaces.

This lubricant is applied to woodworking machine tables to prevent sticking of the workpiece, as well as the anti corrosive properties providing high performance against humidity and bed rust (two common issues found with machine beds).

Reduced sticking of the timber means that the product is able to slide through the machine bed smoothly, allowing for ease of use of the machine.

Xylo L1 comes available in both a 5L bottle and a 1L spray bottle.

675A4977-CD6E-47E6-A6F0-1EF4B210427F-()

How do I apply it?

The L1 Lubricant can be applied to the desired parts of the woodworking  machine (primarily the machine bed in which the timber passes through) by roller, swab or spray. This makes it a highly universal product in terms of application.

However, it is recommended to test the products before using them on painted surfaces. The lubricant should not be applied directly to a surface that has been previously treated with other surface lubricants, unless cleaned beforehand to remove the old product.

What are its other uses?

Although originally designed for use with stationary woodworking machines, Xylo L1 Lubricant is effective for use with other applications including the maintenance of:

  • Hand held planers
  • Circular saws
  • Routers

The lubricant can be applied to the majority of large surface woodworking machines to maintain the performance and consistency of finish.

Armor-Coat™ Hardware: Tested to the Highest Standards

Armor-Coat™ Hardware From Stonebridge

Successfully Tested To BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5, the highest possible standard.

Architectural ironmongery specialists DJH Group Ltd,  have enhanced their Stonebridge Handforged Ironmongery range with the launch of their new Armor-Coat™ Finishes; two all-weather finishes successfully tested to BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5, the highest possible standard – and best in the industry.

The Armor-Coat™ range includes window, door and cabinet hardware available in both a Flat Black and Satin Steel finish which have been designed for longevity, even through the toughest weather elements.

D0UsTuvW0AEYQE8

What is Grade 5 Corrosion Resistance?

The new flat black and satin steel finishes have been independently tested and certified to the full BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5, the highest possible standard (excellent resistance).

This European Standard outlines the requirements for the corrosion resistance of building hardware for both doors and windows, based on performance in a neutral salt spray test (EN ISO 9227). BS EN 1670:2007 specifies requirements for both coated and un-coated surfaces and outlines five grades of corrosion resistance in accordance with the different conditions of use; grades 1 to 5.

The test requires products to be exposed to a neutral salt spray under controlled laboratory conditions for 480 hours. Of which both finishes showed exceptionally high corrosion resistance (both externally and internally) in very severe conditions where long-term protection is required, such as properties along the coast which experience air conditions with a higher level of moisture from salt waters.

AC-blog-image

What are the added benefits?

In addition to providing outstanding protection from corrosion, the Armor-Coat™ finishes are also highly UV rated and resistant, to protect from fading in sunlight or harsh weather.

Not only is the Armor-Coat™ range the most corrosion resistant steel product on the market, but the new finish has the genuine appearance of heritage steel and is suitable for use with Accoya wood, including colour-matched stainless-steel fittings. Also, all hinges, fasteners and stays feature new corrosion-proof, coloured stainless steel pivot joints and bearings, where required, for smoother operation.

Invoke Universal Pocket Door – Style Meets Function

Universal Sliding Pocket Door System

Where style meets function

Pocket doors are becoming increasingly popular due to the rising need to save space within properties. They are perfect for areas where space is at a premium and from an interior design perspective, they create a sleek and smooth finish that is not achievable with hinged doors.

When used successfully, pocket doors can become the focal point of a room which are also easily hidden away in the wall for a more minimalist look when desired.

Here at Toolfix we have been promoting the Invoke Universal Pocket Door System, simply due to its quality and flexibility.

Made up from high quality components manufactured to the strictest standards, the Invoke pocket door system offers many benefits to those applications that are particularly tight for space. The many features and benefits that this system offers, are what makes it stand out to other pocket door systems on the market.

Invoke Pocket Door Gear

Adaptability

The Invoke Pocket Door System is adaptable in three different dimensions (height, weight and thickness) thanks to its components. This means that the door system can be tailored to the user in a variety of ways to meet the specific needs of the application. Not only that, but we offer the system in two different styles which are Traditional and Minimal.

Traditional– The original model fitted in conjunction with the architrave creating a more classic appearance.

Minimal– This kit offers a more modern aesthetic when installed as it does not require an architrave, allowing for a stylish appearance with minimal components.

Quick and Simple to Install

The Invoke pocket door system is installed easily as the components simply “click” together and each kit can be easily modified to accommodate a wide range of fitting applications and sizes. The system can also be assembled in-situ as it can be directly installed into the studwork in a vertical position– a huge advantage when installing in a confined space. Assembly will take an experienced fitter only 30 minutes!

tfx-[09-2015]_Pocket-Door-Flyer[1]

Smooth Operation

The pocket door system comes with the “soft-closing” feature included which allows for safe usage and avoids slamming of the door which may cause damage to other components. We also offer the additional Push-To-Open Buffer accessory (spring loaded) which when installed, releases the pocket door from its cavity with one push, therefore making the door easy to pull out of the pocket.

Saves Space

As with any other pocket door system, the Invoke pocket door allows for additional space saving in areas where it is required to optimise the living space available (e.g. bathrooms, dressing rooms or utility rooms). It also allows for the connection of two rooms, such as living room and kitchen, without the unnecessarily wasted space that is standard with hinged doors.
